| Healing has been the banner of spiritual focus for some years now. In my dealing with people as a meditation instructor, healing was what usually brought them through the door seeking some alternative to prescriptions and knowledge’s that could help them. Many of those I taught had been abuse victims, many of them were on their last hope, broke from seeking help in the medical fields, and often in too much mental turmoil to know what they wanted. Meditation helped enormously to calm their minds, and give them a point of peace in their minds that they had not felt in a long while. I did not charge these people for the services I provided, only that they teach three others what I taught them. I was working through several Spiritual Centers in the area at the time, teaching from there and using the facilities, they were very accommodating, until they found out I was not charging for this service. A large part of healing I believe is teaching people to heal themselves, to work with their own energies by techniques of energy work that bring about alignment of flow that had been blocked and disrupted by life trials and tribulations. Even if the person had physical maladies associated with pain and medical problems, the techniques only served to aid and promote healing on those levels also. Many of those I saw were on prescriptions mood enhancers and sedatives of one kind or another, and wanted to eventually get off of them. Not only was it expensive for them, they felt a dependency that bothered them at a deeper level. I could relate to this as when I sought treatment for my abuse, prescriptions were the ' order of the day ' and the feeling of dependence was immediate in me, and equally as uncomfortable. If I wanted to be a drug addict, I could think of better ways to do it. Many of the people I saw confessed to feeling like ' legal ' drug addicts. The core of my guidance was to teach them techniques that calm them in times of stress, breathing exercises, use of mantras during the day, and working with their counselors to achieve a self healing program, and wean themselves from the drugs that were not desired anymore, working in conjunction with their doctors, advising them of this goal, and the use of these new skills. Not charging for this made me very unpopular within the realms of spiritual people that did. They saw it as a betrayal of their goals and desire to create a business of healing people. Mostly the underlying aggravation seemed to be focused on the fact I was teaching them to do this for themselves, and to pass it along to others they knew that lived in distress also. This knowledge does not belong to any person, group, or organization, it is not patented or the exclusive property of anyone, it is knowledge that belongs to the entire Human race, without exception. Nor does anyone need to pay hundreds or thousands of dollars to find and learn knowledge that will help them become whole and happy in life. There is no spiritual technique of healing that does not work right in conjunction with a medical healing program, or religious beliefs, it enhances those things and speeds recoveries timetable. It also gives the person a sense of self, a sense of control over their lives again from being the one that directs their own healing. It is important to recognize physical and mental distress, to confront the reality of its existence in your life, and to address a program of returning to wholeness, but few people out there truly believe that a pill is going to do it for them. They want to know that after the prescription is done, they can continue to do things to improve their health in a whole manner. This is where spiritual lifestyles come into play. It is also important to help people see that even though there a few things not working well in them, for the majority, there is a lot working well within them. To help to realize that they are relatively healthy for the most part, and constant focus on the illness feeds it thoughts and energy. The word healing implies that you are sick. It also implies that the healers business depends on that fact. Why would a healthy person seek healing? Just as religion usually comes from the theology that we are sinners at birth, spirituality seems to come from the viewpoint that we are in need of healing first and foremost. Perhaps energy alignments are in order, learning new dietary perspectives, and a program of meditation and Yogic exercise would benefit them greatly, but these things remain in the realm of enhancement, not healing. It is good to ' tweak ' the old body, mind and spirit to be sure, but it is not good to view people as needing healing all the time, or to make it the focus of ones spiritual practices. The internet provides wonderful sites to learn these skills and arts, and it also provides an array of pure bullshit scams designed to separate your money from you , not your disease. Trust your gut when viewing these sites, if it seems too easy to be true, then it probably is. But if your feeling good reading it, then continue. Learning meditation, Yoga, and other Human arts of enhancement are there for the taking, free and complete. It only requires a few hours a week to teach these things to yourself, and they will lead you to where you are desiring to go |
